…More Than Sweet Potatoes

But How Did We Get Here? (Part 1)

Two years ago I wrote this blog about how I ended up in Florida.  I supposed with the end of my time in Florida looming over me like a black cloud shining sun the Kool-Aid man I may as well chronicle my journey from the first day I walked into the Panthers’ arena to my last day at Dunder Mifflin.

The Bank Atlantic Center (Now the BB&T Center)

October 26th, 2009 – I take my first steps into the professional sports arena (both literally and figuratively) and feel like a very small fish in a big pond.  At this point I was still living on a pull out couch in my parents’ friend’s home.

October 28th, 2009 – Through the wonder of Roommates.com I end up connecting with a girl and make plans to meet her while I’m working at the Panthers game – where she’ll be watching with a friend.  After the game, I go by the apartment and immediately fall in love with my new roommate, Katy.

This is what you wear to go bowling, right?

January 1st, 2010 – After ringing in the New Year with some pseudo friends I had met through the Purdue Alumni group and passing out on a La-Z-Boy chair, I came home in the same clothes I had gone out in and met the best thing in my life: Gizmo.

Don’t worry, he was only plugged in for the picture.

April 1st, 2010 – I had had enough feeling lonely, friendless (except for Katy) and sad, so I signed up for Kickball.  April 1st, I got an email from the representative for the league welcoming all the players and asking if anyone wanted to help with stuff.  I volunteered to help with the weekly “newsletter” and met the league rep – Priscilla.

April 23rd, 2010 – After a few weeks of chatting away on google chat with my new acquaintance, Priscilla invited me to join her and her friends at McSorley’s for Sunday Funday.  Within one Sunday Funday I had a new best friend and a whole group of people I liked being around… AND I had a new bar that we’d refer as just that, The Bar.IMG_1677IMG_1676

End of May, 2010 – Feeling a need to give back and having a lot of free time (due to having only a small handful of friends) I volunteered to be an advisor for B’nai B’rith Youth Organization – the same youth group I was part of while in high school.  I made a couple more friends in Oshrat (my new counter part) and Amanda.

June 17th, 2010 – Katy and I move out of our apartment and into The Manor – our happy little home with the best landlord ever and the coolest condo association that looked the other way when I pretended to not have Gizmo and fought on our behalf when Katy adopted Zeus – a BABY 98 pound doberman.

Sometime in the summer, 2010 – Lauren starts working at the Panthers (LB, sorry if the timeline is wrong) and after originally hating her because she had been hired for a position I wanted, I became slightly obsessed with her.  We would sit in the stadium with our Disney Princesses Lunch boxes and chat away about work and friends and college.  She became my work person immediately.

September 2010 – I quit/got fired by the Panthers.  After spending day after day crying (at work, in the bathroom, for about 10 minutes a day) my mom gave me the go-ahead to quit.  I was so unhappy.  I’m not a sales person.  I never wanted to be one.  I wasn’t good at it.  I tried my hardest EVERY SINGLE DAY but it made no difference.  So I asked my angel of a manager to fire me.  Which he did.

October 2010 – I started working as a compliance auditor at Florida Career College.  I was making bank and had a job that I liked.  A lot.  It had its downside, as all things do.  I didn’t particularly like alerting management when their employees broke the law.  I didn’t love driving to campus locations all across South Florida.  The job itself though?  I liked it a lot.

February 2011 – After dating G for about 4 months (4 months of fighting and crying) we go out for Valentine’s Day dinner.  Three days later he comes over and breaks up with me.  I don’t understand.  I am devastated.  Katy is out of town.  Amanda comes over and makes me listen to Hall and Oates while I vent and cry.  One full day later I am 100% fine and over it.

End of June 2011 – Florida Career College eliminates the Compliance Auditor position.  I am unexpectedly without a job.  I spend a couple weeks partying it up when I am not sending out resumes and going on cold-meetings.

July 20th(ish,) 2011 – I decide to go visit my parents in Arizona.  I go for (I think) 10 days.  This coincides with my sister visiting with my (at the time) 2 year old nephew, Brandon.  We celebrate my sister’s birthday at The Talking Stick resort and casino in Scottsdale, AZ.

August 10th, 2011 – I get back to Florida from a long weekend in Houston, TX visiting an old friend from college who I have absolutely blogged about on multiple occasions.  A few days later I start working at LA Fitness for the sole purpose of no longer being unemployed.  This was temporary.

But wait, there’s more!  I mean, we’re only at August 2011…and it’s September 2015, you guys!
